3 Signs You’ve Outgrown Your Home

Serene reading nook with a comfortable couch, indoor plants, and sunlight streaming through shadows

The Journal — notes on homes, seasons, and the moments that ask for something new.

It’s rarely one big moment. It’s smaller than that — a hesitation before you invite people over, a routine that used to fit and now just doesn’t. Here are three signs I hear most often from clients right before they call me.

1. You avoid hosting because it doesn’t feel right anymore

Not because you don’t want people over — because the space doesn’t hold what you need it to hold. The dinner table’s too small, the layout fights you, or the whole house just feels like it’s apologizing for itself.

2. Your routines feel cramped or disconnected

Maybe the office got carved out of a closet. Maybe the morning routine involves three people and one bathroom door. When a home stops supporting how you actually live, that’s information — not something to push through.

3. You’ve changed, but your home hasn’t

This is the quiet one. Nothing’s technically wrong. It’s just that the life you’re living now doesn’t match the rooms you’re living it in.

Kortnee’s Take

None of this means something’s broken. It usually means you’ve grown — and it might be time for a home that grows with you. If any of this sounds familiar, let’s talk it through. No pressure, just a conversation.
